Gracie Barra Hoppers Crossing MMA Program

Gracie Barra Hoppers Crossing MMA Program

Our Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) program is a high-intensity, low-contact blend of various martial arts that include

  • Boxing – Primarily focused on striking, punches and stand-up footwork

  • No-gi grappling – Ground fighting with an emphasis on submission holds and chokes, grappling techniques, throws and takedowns

  •  Muay Thai/Kickboxing –  Focussed on striking techniques, involving kicks, elbows and knees.

Generally, our MMA members develop a solid foundation in one of these and then work to improve the other forms as they merge the strengths of various fighting styles. Our combination of teachings creates their personalised fighting style – a signature that makes them stand out in this highly competitive sport.

Our MMA curriculum teaches you to punch, kick, elbow, knee, takedown, clinch, grapple, and submit opponents, and you will learn, understand and train all key elements that make you an effective fighter.

The Benefits of training in our MMA class

Promotes weight loss and fitness - Using your whole body when striking or grappling, it's no surprise that this intense activity can be equivalent to both a cardio and strength training workout, so you'll be sure to break a sweat and shed some weight as you do MMA training.

Improves Confidence - MMA training consistently challenges our members to push past their physical and mental boundaries, fostering an environment where achievements are celebrated, and you'll build confidence in yourself and your natural abilities, leading to a profound sense of accomplishment and pride.

Improves Focus and Concentration - In combat sports, sharpening your hand and eye coordination takes considerable time and effort. This is particularly important with MMA, as you need your strikes, punches, and takedowns to flow smoothly when engaging with your opponent. As you continually learn the fundamentals of each fighting style with each training, your concentration and coordination will develop as timing, distance, and defence become imperative to the sport.

Improves Self-Defense – MMA training is one of the best ways to improve your fight game, notwithstanding the pre-attack phase (avoid, de-escalate, escape strategies). Still, it will make a difference in your ability to fend off a violent attacker successfully.

A black belt is a white belt who never quits.

You’ll notice a positive and friendly environment when entering our academy. Although MMA can be intimidating for many, our classes are definitely not intimidating. You will find a group of friendly guys and girls with their MMA gloves and mouthguards who are excited to be there and excited to have you there. The instructor will run several drills, and after a few classes, you will catch up with the rest of the group and start lightly sparring and putting what you have learned into practice. Once you master the basics, you will enjoy a class's intensity based on effective MMA techniques and scenarios.
